THE INCREASING POPULARITY OF UK FOOD FESTIVALS

Over recent years, the British population has developed quite the appetite for food festivals, with an increasing number of local fairs and festivals continuing to pop up across the country.

Whether small or large, a well-planned and producer-populated food fair is guaranteed to attract a crowd, but how and why did this obsession begin?

With more and more people campaigning for individuals to ‘buy British’, there has been an increase in the number of people choosing to buy locally-sourced products. However, while research by YouGov identifies that 79% of British adults believe it’s important to buy locally-sourced produce, the number of people following through and purchasing this produce is reported to be significantly lower, at just 30%.

Food fairs and festivals are a fantastic way to increase sales of locally-produced goods as well as provide a great opportunity for those in the local community to join together and taste different recipes and flavours. Many of the local suppliers will use the ingredients from nearby farms and fruit and vegetable growers to create their tasty delights, further benefiting the community. This is the epitome of buying British – supporting businesses close to home and helping them to grow and thrive.

Many of our producers, along with a host of other artisan curators, attend a selection of festivals close to them throughout the year. Check out the list below to see where you can sample preserves from our some of our suppliers throughout 2018:
